INTRODUCTION

Coloring skin is one of the most important parts in a drawing! It can be very hard sometimes, peculiarly if yous tin can't choose the right colors and tools for it! That's why I decided to brand a small tutorial showing how I colour skin using Clip Studio Paint. I promise yous enjoy the tutorial and find it helpful!

COLOR PALETTE

Skin has way besides many tones. It can be very lite, very dark, or somewhere in between! I usually utilize low-cal-reddish colour tones for my drawings, and then I decided to choose this palette for today'due south tutorial too.

The post-obit moving-picture show shows which colors are used for what part in the face. I volition be explaining more about them later on!

BASE COLOR:

Fill the area y'all desire to color skin in with the base colour first! Brand certain you don't color exterior your lines.

The base color should be brighter than the terminal skin tone that you want to take. This is because nosotros will add darker shading later!

Stride 1:

Create a new folder (SKIN) and add together a layer (BASE) to information technology.

Make certain to proceed the Skin folder at the very bottom, considering nosotros want to color under the lines and non over them.

Quick Tip:
If you requite your folders and layers names, information technology will be easier and faster for y'all to find your layers.

Footstep 2:

Choose your tool. For the base color, I use Turnip Pen on 100% Opacity. At that place are many other brushes that you lot tin can utilise. These should be hard brushes so you tin color the area completely without leaving whatever transparent areas.

Pace iii:

Pick the color and fill the surface area.

SHADING

To be able to shade, you lot have to ask yourself: where should the light come from?

For this tutorial, I want the lighting to come from above on the left corner.

Pace 1:

Create a new layer (SHADING) to a higher place the first layer (Base)

Click on the icon for Prune at layer below. This will confine the coloring inside the base color surface area but, which makes the coloring easier without worrying about it going out of the lines!

Step 2:

Choose your tool. For the shading part you can choose whatever castor y'all're comfortable using! I personally bask using the Watercolor brush the nigh.

Step 3:

For shading, it'due south always skillful to use more than one color. Information technology volition brand your cartoon more pleasing to look at and less irksome!

The colors yous choose for shading should exist darker than the base color.

Normally, I use two tones and sometimes mix between them to create more tones.

Areas I add shading to:

  • On the optics: First I use the bright tone around the eyes and then add the darker tone on the top and lesser eyelids
  • Nether the nose
  • On the lips: I like coloring the lips darker from the centre and brighter toward the edges, this will brand the lips look very soft
  • On the nose: I use the bright tone outside the ears and dark tone within
  • On the cervix: The calorie-free is coming from the left, which means the shading should be on the right side of the neck
  • On the forehead under the hair: I volition explain this part in the adjacent picture.

  1. Using Turnip pen in a dark tone, I draw the shadow nether the hair
  2. Lock the layer
  3. Using Soft Airbrush in a lite tone, I color the bottom function of the shadow to arrive look more realistic

Chroma:

Blush makes your drawings look softer and cuter. You lot can add information technology on any role of the body depending on your style!

Examples:

  • Cheeks (most common)
  • Olfactory organ
  • Elbows
  • Knees
  • Fingers
  • Shoulders

Footstep 1:

Create a new layer (Chroma) over the previous layer (SHADING)

Click on the icon for Prune at layer below.

Step two:

Pick the color. For blush, I like using light reddish tones.

Step 3:

Choose your tool. I'll employ the same Watercolor Castor as for shading!

Add some blush on the cheeks and any other parts y'all like

Using the Blend tool, try to smudge it from the edges only to make it look soft. (Advice: the bigger the castor is, the faster and cleaner it blends.)

HIGHLIGHTS:

If your drawing has shadows, that means there is a lite besides! That's why we add highlights, which gives the skin a soft glow!

Step 1:

Create a new layer (HIGHLIGHT) above the previous layer (Blush)

Click on the icon for Prune at layer below.

Step 2:

Option the color. For highlights, I personally just utilize a whitish color for this type of pare tone! For darker pare, white will look very brilliant, so I would go with calorie-free pink or brown tones instead.

Step 3:

Choose your tool. I'll use the aforementioned castor once more which is Watercolor Castor.

Y'all're free to use any castor you're comfortable with. Information technology e'er depends on your style. If you lot want the drawing to wait polish, utilize soft brushes. If you lot want it to look sharp, utilize difficult brushes.

Add the highlights on the parts where the light comes from. For this drawing, the light is coming from the left.

I put highlights on the nose, cheeks, lips, and cervix.

You can besides employ the Blend tool to blend some parts if needed.

REFLECTED Low-cal Event:

To brand your cartoon more realistic, information technology'south always prissy to put reflected lighting on information technology. This appears in the darkest shadows, caused past refracted light from nearby surfaces. The color depends on the environment, such equally clothing, objects, and fifty-fifty the sky.

Step 1:

Create a new layer (REFLECTED Low-cal EFFECT) over the previous layer (HIGHLIGHT)

Click on the icon for Clip at layer below.

Step 2:

Selection the color. For the reflected calorie-free effect, I choose the color depending on the drawing. This drawing is cold and has lots of blue in information technology, so I thought the blue light effect will suit information technology the best.

You tin can always use any color or even multiple ones! Merely always make sure that the tone you chose fits well to the skin tone! The light result should always be a bit lighter than the area y'all're going to add together on.

Step 3:

Cull your tool! For this stride I'll go with Soft Airbrush. I think information technology does the job perfectly. Simply again, you lot're always costless to try any brushes yous want.

You lot can put this low-cal outcome on any part y'all like! I personally call up it looks the best in the night shading parts, which is the neck.

Different Skin Colour Palettes:

Here are 4 different skin palettes for you lot! There are way likewise many skin tones, so this is just a few examples. You can always create your own palettes and colors.

This is the cease of my pare coloring tutorial! I tried to make it every bit unproblematic as possible and easy for you to empathize. I hope you learned new techniques and things today!

In that location is always more to learn and observe! Clip Studio Pigment is definitely amazing and easy to employ once you acquire more almost information technology.
